Hannah's friend, Danielle spent Friday night, so she got to help clean out the cattle trough that the ducklings are living in. Jonah hadn't stacked that wood yet, so they had to get the trough over the pile twice. They are strong girls!
I think the pic worked-and so quickly, too! They did some work with Copper since Hannah was taking him to the gymkana the next day. Then they pretended he was a circus horse. He's such a good boy!
Here's the birthday girl-she's now 2. She was kind of grumpy most of the day, getting over a cold, poor thing:
I made cookies for Hannah's art show, made a chocolate cake for Alyssa's birthday & got dinner in the crockpot. Then we went to the art show. Here's Hannah's entries. She didn't place at all, but I love what she did-they sure are first place in my eyes! ;)
My MIL got here late afternoon since it was Alyssa's birthday, but by the time Pat got done hauling stone & picking up a new tarp for his dump trailer and me getting groceries & running older kids here and there, it was late, she was tired & cranky and I was, too. We put off the cake and ice cream for the next day. I wasn't happy about this-I like birthdays to be extra special & all about that particular kid, but it just didn't work that way this time. At least Alyssa didn't know it was her birthday. The next day was all about the gymkana show at Maine Mavericks (not thru 4H). Susanna did the leadline class on Copper. Hannah was alongside. Susanna sat his trot thru the barrel pattern & they got a second place red ribbon. This was her first time showing & she was SOOO excited.
Copper still hasn't lost all his winter fur yet, so he's looking a little scruffy. He's a 7 yr old QH. Here's Susanna sitting around during the show:
Someone remarked to me that this pic looks like a farm store/tractor commerical. LOL. I have videos of all Hannah's events, no still pics. She did barrel racing, pole bending and the 50 yd dash. She & Copper are beginners at all this. They started last Spring, but then Copper hurt his leg this time last year, so now they're starting all over again. Her turns were fantastic & her time was 22 seconds. She is looking forward to improving her times thru the summer. She didn't push him at all-just wanted to work on technique & teamwork. They need work on the poles-they only got to practice that a couple times-boy, those are tough to do! The 50 yd dash was 9.something seconds. She's 14 & is competing in the 14-18 yr old class, so if she places at all this summer, it was be momentous-the competition at this show is very hard. most of the kids competing use Maine Mavericks for their practice for NBHA events-Hannah's not into those yet. LOL We were all so proud of her & Copper-they did great together! Let's see if I can figure out video. Nope-didn't work, says file is too big. Oh well. It was a long, tiring, but fun day. Jonah came with us, but he hung out with friends & we barely saw him. After getting home, getting unpacked, getting dinner together & eating it, we finally sang Happy Birthday to Alyssa. (Thankfully, Alyssa stayed home with my MIL, or the show would have been really rough for me.)
